Pōhiri & Guided Terraces Walk
Be welcomed onto the whenua with a traditional Māori welcome, then be guided to the world’s first man-made silica terraces. See the geyser, feel the steam, and hear the pūrākau (stories) of this land, shared by people who know it and live it.
Four Houses of Learning
Step inside Whare Tū Taua, Whare Pora, Whare Whakairo and Whare a Rēhia. Watch our kaiako demonstrate mau rākau, weaving, carving and traditional games taught to our children.
Kapa Haka Concert & Haka
The journey ends with a full kapa haka concert: mōteatea, ngeri, waiata-a-ringa and poi. Hear directly from the descendants of the families behind the story of Ka Mate, the haka that our International Rugby and Sports Teams take to the world.

You’re welcomed onto the whenua with a traditional Māori welcome. Then we take you on a guided journey past the steaming silica terraces and the geyser, and into our four whare of learning:
- Whare Tū Taua: House of Martial Discipline
- Whare Pora: House of Textile Arts
- Whare Whakairo: House of Carving
- Whare a Rēhia: House of Games
–
The journey ends with a full concert: We sing our ancient songs that tell stories of love, high adventure and travel across the seas and oceans of the world, waiata-a-ringa-action songs that entice and embrace you, our poi, a full demonstration of our skill. You’ll also hear directly from the descendants of the families behind the story of Ka Mate, the haka that our International Rugby and Sports Teams take to the world.
